LAS VEGAS -

2008 UNLV men's soccer schedule

The UNLV men's soccer team, under third-year head coach Mario Sanchez, will participate in a total of four tournaments and play a total of 10 games on the road as the Rebels' 19-game schedule for the 2008 season was announced on Monday.

The Rebels open the season on the road for the fourth straight year with a contest at UC Riverside on Aug. 22. UNLV then returns home to host the first of two tournaments. The weekend of Aug. 30 and Sept. 1 will see Western Illinois, Radford and Jacksonville come to Las Vegas for the UNLV Rebel Classic. After a trip to Fullerton, Calif., for matches against Cal State Fullerton (Sept. 5) and Cal State Northridge (Sept. 7), UNLV will host its second tournament of the year, the UNLV Nike Invitational, featuring UC Riverside, Oral Roberts and Gonzaga, which was a NCAA tournament team from 2007.

UNLV will play in its fourth straight tournament the next weekend, as the Rebels will participate in the USF BMW/Nike Classic in San Francisco, where they will meet host USF on Sept. 19, before meeting St. Mary's on Sept. 21, in UNLV's final non-conference game.

The MPSF schedule will feature home-and-away series for the six teams in the league for the fourth straight season. The conference slate begins at Air Force on Oct. 3, while the first MPSF home contest is against Sacramento State on Oct. 10. UNLV will again play defending league champion New Mexico on back-to-back dates, with an Oct. 17 contest in Las Vegas to be followed by an Oct. 31 match in Albuquerque.
