UNLV Weekly Release

All About The Rebels
The Rebels enter the 2014 season with high hopes, as they bring in their highest preseason conference ranking ever (second in the WAC), and for the first time since 1991 have four returning all-conference players on the squad. The returning All-WAC players for UNLV include two of the top three scorers from 2013, junior midfielder Rodrigo Fuentes (16 points) and senior forward Salvador Bernal (14 points), while senior defender Kyle Mellies and senior goalkeeper Ryan Harding (WAC-leading 1.22 GAA) round out the four.
This weekend will be the first-ever trip to the state of Illinois for UNLV. The Rebels are looking for their first season-opening win away from Las Vegas since a 2-1 overtime win at Cal Poly to being the 2009 campaign.

Scouting Western Illinois
Following a 6-13 mark in 2013, the Leathernecks have been picked to place third in the Summit League this season, behind Denver and Omaha. The team's top returnee is Charlie Bales, a 2012 second team all-region selection that missed last season with an injury, while the Leathernecks return five of their top seven goal scorers as well.

Scouting Bradley
The Braves were picked to finish third in the preseason Missouri Valley Conference poll, as they return 13 letterwinners from last year's squad that reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Leading the way is Christian Okeke, the 2013 MVC Freshman of the Year who posted 16 points and six goals, leaving him as the top returning scorer for the team.

Next Time Out
The Rebels will host their first tournament of the season, the Johann Memorial Classic, on Friday, Sept. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 7 at Peter Johann Memorial Field. UNLV will face IPFW in the first game at 7 pm, followed by a 1 pm contest against Howard.
