LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's soccer team will open the 2009 season on the road on Tuesday when it travels to San Luis Obispo, Calif. to take on the Mustangs of Cal Poly. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.

The Rebels head into the season returning just five starters from last year's' squad that saw them go 8-9-1 and finish tied for fourth place in the MPSF. The team was recently tabbed to finish fourth this season in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation preseason coaches' poll. The Rebels look to be led by junior midfielder Stephen Sifuentes who, with three goals, is the only returning goal scorer from last season. Sophomore midfielder Nicholas DeLeon is expected to have a big impact on offense this year as he had three assists and was a second-team all-conference selection last season as a freshman. Junior goalkeeper Roland Swanson is expected to get the start in the net on Tuesday night as well.

No. 23 Cal Poly comes into the 2009 season returning seven starters from last year's team that helped that finished with a school-record 11-6-6 mark. The Mustangs were picked to finish third this season by the Big West preseason coaches' poll and are led by sophomore defender Patrick Sigler, who was named the 2008 Big West Co-Freshman of the Year as well as being named to the 2009 Hermann Trophy Watch List. Offensively, the Mustangs are led by junior forward David Zamore who scored eight goals last season and earned a spot on the Big West all conference first team. Junior goalkeeper Patrick McLain is expected to see most of the time in goal.

The Rebels will open their home schedule on Friday night when they host Central Arkansas in the UNLV Nike Invitational.
