The young Rebel men's soccer team returns to Las Vegas this weekend for two conference tilts against Sacramento State Friday and San Jose State on Sunday afternoon. UNLV will try to snap a 27-game winless streak, dating back to Sept. 11th of last season, a 2-1 win vs. Northwestern.
UNLV's offensive attack has been fairly spread out this season thus far, with five players having scored twice apiece. Sophomore midfielder Nicholas Paterson leads the Rebels with nine points, having dished out a conference-best five assists. Fellow second-year player Lamar Neagle has a two goals and an assist, while Martin Kenny and Hakim Zermouni have both netted two goals each.
Sacramento State will enter Friday's game with a 3-7 mark, falling in its only MPSF match to San Jose State 1-0 this past weekend. Sac. State boasts a potent attack, with the Hornets leading the conference in goals (28), assists (24) and points (80). SSU is led by Zlaten Kuckovic, the conference point leader, who has scored six times, along with three assists, for 15 points.
San Jose State will look to continue its good play, as they have reeled off three wins in there last four outings. The Spartans are 4-4-1 this far through the season, and 1-0 in the MPSF after defeating Sacramento State 1-0 last weekend. The Spartan's Colby Moore scored his second goal of the season against SSU, and first game-winner, thanks to help from Gavin Wenyon and Brian Maguire. SJSU is more of a defensive squad, parlaying only eight goals into four wins.
The UNLV men's soccer team will be signing autograph's following Friday's 7 p.m. game against Sacramento State. On Sunday, any fan sporting a UNLV or Rebel shirt will recieve $4 admission to the game against San Jose State at 1 p.m.
