WOODLAND, Calif. - UNLV junior forward Rod Dyachenko, who had a hand in two game-winning goals last week, was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Soccer Co-Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. The weekly honor is the first in his career for Dyachenko, who shared this week's award with Sacramento State's Ricky Rodriguez.
In the Rebels' win over Denver on Oct. 8, Dyachenko drove into the box in the final minutes, fought through three defenders, and sent a shot past the goalie for the 1-0 UNLV victory, the first conference win of the year for the Rebels. It also gave head coach Barry Barto his 300th career victory. On Sunday against Air Force, the scored was tied at 1-1 when Dyachenko drove down the field and fed Chris Wessel for the game-winning goal with just over three minutes left. Dyachenko leads the team with two goals, both game-winners, and one assist for five points.
UNLV, 3-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play, take to the road for a pair of games in California. The Rebels meet San Jose State on Friday at 7 pm, then take on Sacramento State on Sunday at 1 pm.
