Oct. 12, 2009

LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Stephen Sifuentes was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday. It is the first weekly MPSF honor of his career, and the third for UNLV this season. He shared this week's award with John Rhynard from Air Force.

Sifuentes, a junior forward and native of Fresno, Calif., scored two goals to lead UNLV past Houston Baptist on Sunday afternoon in the Rebels' 4-2 victory. His first score came in the 26th minute, and he sealed the victory with a goal in the 88th minute, giving him the third two-goal game of his career. Currently he is second on the team and fourth in the MPSF in both goals (five) and points (12).

UNLV (6-2-2), off to its best start since 1988, opens MPSF play on Friday night when it hosts Cal State Bakersfield at 7 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
