Neagle Picks Up Another Weekly Honor|
Oct. 13, 2008
LAS VEGAS - UNLV senior forward Lamar Neagle received two weekly honors on Monday after leading UNLV to two wins this past weekend, as he was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Brine Co-Player of the Week and was also named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Team of the Week. This is Neagle's third career MPSF weekly honor and second this year, and the third national weekly honor as well.
Neagle, a native of Federal Way, Wash., scored two game-winners to lead the Rebels to wins over Sacramento State (4-1) and San Jose State (2-1). His biggest goal came against SJSU on Sunday, as with the game tied in the final minutes, Neagle dribbled into the left side of the box, juked out several SJSU defenders until he had an open look at the goal, and then unleashed a shot from eight yards out that squeezed in between the left post and the goalie for the score in the 89th minute (88:58).
Against Sacramento State on Friday, Neagle was on the receiving end of a give-and-go with Ben Haugland that resulted in a Neagle shot from 10 yards out that he sent cross cage to the right side in the 25th minute. It was the second goal of the night for UNLV.
For the weekend, he scored two goals, both game-winners off seven shots. He now has a conference-high seven goals, and 25 in his career, which is ninth-best all-time at UNLV.
UNLV (7-4-1, 2-2 MPSF) will return to action on Friday when it hosts New Mexico at 7:30 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
