UNLV begins its quest for a third WAC Men's Soccer Tournament championship trophy in four years on Wednesday night, as the second-seeded Rebels will take on seventh-seed Grand Canyon at 7 pm at Peter Johann Memorial Field. For the first-time ever, UNLV is hosting a men’s soccer conference tournament, and the Rebels have been strong on their home field this season with a 6-3 mark, including 4-1 in league play.
Single game ticket prices for the tournament are $8 for adults, $5 for youth ages 13-18, while kids 12 and under are free as well as all UNLV students (with a student ID). All session passes are available at $20 for adults, and $12 for youth ages 13-18. More information is available at UNLVTickets.com. The UNLV Soccer Foundation is hosting a free tailgate before each UNLV game in the tournament, and will be open on Wednesday at 5 pm with free food and food drinks.
The Rebels have won three of their last four games coming into Wednesday’s first round battle, while averaging almost three goals a game during that stretch. This will be the first-ever meeting against GCU in the WAC Tournament, as the Antelopes are in their first year of eligibility for the NCAA Division I postseason.
This is also the second meeting in five days for the two teams, as UNLV posted a 4-1 win on GCU’s Senior Day on Nov. 4. The Antelopes had a defender receive a red card in the second half of the contest, and he will have to sit out Wednesday’s game against the Rebels. All-time, UNLV is 4-1-1 against GCU, and 1-1-1 in Las Vegas. The loss came back in the 2000 season, while last year the teams played to a 2-2 double-overtime tie.
All six WAC Tournament games will be live streamed through the WAC Digital Network, which is available both online and on over-the-top applications for Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV and Roku devices.
