UNLV scored in the top 16 in two events on Friday night and stand in 17th place with one day left at the 2011 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. This year's championship meet is being hosted at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center, and concludes on Saturday.

Thanks to their 21 points in the two events, the Rebels finished the day with 49 points, placing them in 17th place, four points out of 16th. The 49 points easily surpasses the previous high for points by a UNLV team at the national championships, 37 from last year's squad that tied for 21st, which was also the best in team history. Leading the overall standings is California with 352 points, while Texas is in second place with 288.5.

In the day's first event, the 200 medley relay, the Rebels swam a time of 1:25.81 in the morning preliminaries to stand in 11th place, missing the night finals and a chance for a top-eight finish by just .11 seconds. They bounced back in the night session to win the consolation heat and take ninth place after touching the wall in 1:26.19. Earning relay All-American Honorable Mention status for the performance was senior David Seiler, junior Andrew Morrell, sophomore Cody Roberts and junior Steven Nelms.

The other points on the day came from Roberts. For the second straight year he would claim 14th in the 100 fly, turning in a time of 46.69 to earn Honorable Mention All-American.



Three more Rebels joined Roberts in swimming the 100 fly on Friday. Seiler placed 40th in 47.89, while teammate Kyle Virva was 41st (47.90) and Nelms finished 43rd (48.09). Junior Andrew Morrell swam in the 100 breast, finishing 28th in 54.17.
