COLUMBUS, Ohio -

UNLV posted one top-16 relay finish and set two new Mountain West Conference records after the first day of action on Friday at the 2010 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships. This year's championship meet is being hosted by Ohio State in the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, and the three-day meet continues on Saturday before concluding on Sunday.

The 200 yard free relay team of Steven Nelms, Cody Roberts, David Seiler and Andrew Morrell posted a time of 1:19.50 to place 14th, out-touching LSU by .01 That finish earned UNLV six points, putting them in 27th place after the first day. Texas leads the overall team standings with 145 points, while California is second with 139.

UNLV just barely missed out on having two scoring relays, as the 400 Medley relay team missed the cut for night consolations by just 0.15 seconds. It wasn't all bad news though, as the time of 3:11.98 turned in by Seiler, Morrell, Roberts and Nelms set a new league record time. Morrell's leadoff performance of the relay, a 48.03 in the 100 back, also set a new MWC record as well.

Two Rebels competed in individual events on Friday. Kier Maitland posted a time of 4:23.09 in the 500 free to place 35th, while Nelms finished 42nd in the 50 free in 20.15.
