Andrew Livingston Takes 12th at NCAA Championships
March 28, 1998
AUBURN, Ala. - Freshman Andrew Livingston swam to a 12th place finish in his first-ever NCAA Championship today in Auburn, Ala., clocking a time of 1:46.12. Livingston qualified for the consolation finals after taking 10th place in the morning prelims with a personal-best of 1:45.99. The finish marks the best in the 200 butterfly since three-time All-American Bart Pippenger took second place in 1990 as a senior. However, Livingston is the first UNLV freshman to qualify for the NCAA's in the 200 fly.
Livingston is one of two UNLV swimmers that were swimming at Nationals. Erik Scalise competed Thursday and Friday in the 200IM and 400IM, respectively. Scalise's best finish was 10th, which he accomplished with a time of 3:51.08 in the 400IM. The UNLV duo combined for a total of 12 points with their three events.
