TEMPE, Ariz. - The UNLV men's and women's swimming teams both dropped its season opener on Friday afternoon, as the host Arizona State Sun Devils claimed a 186-122 over the Rebel men, and a 236-68 win over the Rebel women.

The UNLV men stayed close to the 19th-ranked ASU men's squad at the beginning, starting with a win in the 200 medley relay. Devin Phillips, Jonas Andersson, Tiger Christian, and Brandon Nelms teamed up to swim a first palce time of 1:32.33. ASU would claim wins in the next three events however, and would take first in a total of 11 out of 14 races on the night to earn the 64-point victory.

Winning individual events on the night for UNLV was Nelms in the 50 free (20.72) and Andersson in the 100 breast (57.57). Both also posted a second place finish, Nelms in the 100 free and Andersson in the 200 breast. Other highlights for UNLV included three second-place swims by Johan Claar (500 free, 1000 free, 200 fly).

On the women's side, Arizona State won all 14 events on the way to the victory. The Rebels would post four second place finishes, beginning with a swim of 10:14.85 by Lani Seaman in the 1000 free. Marina Sandback placed second in both the 50 free (23.87), and in the 100 fly (57.36). Bailey Kuestermeyer swam a time of 4:31.18 in the 400 IM for a second place mark.

The Rebels will next swim in their home opener against Mountain West rival Utah at 2 pm in Las Vegas on Saturday, Nov. 4.
