Rebels Finish Day One At Shootout

IRVINE, Calif. - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed against several schools in the UC Irvine Shootout on Friday afternoon. UNLV won all three meets on the men's side and will advance to the first pool tomorrow, as will the Rebel women, who won three of four in its pool.
The Rebel men defeated UC Davis 94-37, BYU 91-41, and Cal State Northridge 118-11. Two double-event winners paced the Rebels, as Andrew Morrell won the 100 breast in 57.42 and the 200 breast in 2:03.76, while David Seiler claimed the 100 fly (49.53) and the 200 fly (1:50.84). Also winning events for the men was John Mendoza in the 1650 free (15:41.72), Thomas Andolfsson in the 50 free (21.00), and Calan Eldridge in the 100 free (45.71). UNLV also won the 200 free relay in a time of 1:22.94.
On the women's side, UNLV defeated UC Davis 83-57, lost to BYU 83-39, won 106-15 over Cal State Northridge, and topped San Diego 99-23. Winning events for the women were Amanda Weinbrecht in the 100 back (57.60), and Marley Prothero in the 100 breast (1:06.04).
The shootout continues tomorrow. On the men's side, UNLV will compete against Air Force, BYU, and Hawaii, while on the women's side, the Rebels will swim against BYU, UC Davis, Hawaii, and Pepperdine.
