First Day Action At Arena Cup

LONG BEACH, Calif. (UNLVRebels) - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams recorded a total of six top-eight finishes, including three top-three, on the first day of action on Thursday at the Arena Cup held at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool.
The Rebel men, currently ranked 18th in the nation, were led by their relay performances. Steven Nelms, Cody Roberts, Charlie Tapp and Kyle Virva led off the meet with a third-place swim in the 200 free relay in a time of 1:20.23. David Seiler, David Szele, Roberts and Nelms would place second in the 400 medley relay, touching the wall in 3:14.71. The top individual finish on the men's side was from Giacomo Gremizzi, a second-place swim in the 200 IM (1:47.33). Other top-eight finishes were from Kier Maitland in the 500 free, sixth in 1:47.33 and Nelms, fifth in the 50 free.
On the women's side, the top swim came from freshman Jessica Heim, who was seventh in the 500 free in 4:51.95.
The three-day meet continues on Friday, and will conclude on Saturday.
