Rebels Finish In Sixth In Texas

AUSTIN, Texas - UNLV sophomore Jonas Andersson posted the highest finish of the night for the Rebels, finishing fourth in the 200 breast to help the UNLV men finish in sixth place following the third and final day of action at the Texas Invitational on Saturday night. The Rebels finished with 254 points, while on the women's side, UNLV scored 25 points to place 14th. Arizona won both the men's and women's team titles.
Andersson claimed fourth in the 200 breast in a time of 1:55.25. He was one of two Rebels to score in the event, as Tamas Bosynak was 18th in 2:04.88, and Eric Culberson placed 28th in 2:09.02. Also in action for the Rebels, Devin Phillips was 16th in the 200 back in 1:50.45, while Tiger Christian placed 20th in 1:49.26. Brandon Nelms led three Rebels in the 100 free, swimming a time of 44.50 to place 10th. Richard Hortness finished 23rd in 45.45, while John Byers placed 30th in 45.80. Daniel Egly also scored for UNLV on the night, finishing 16th in the 200 fly (1:51.62).
The men also scored high in the 400 free relay, with Hortness, Nelms, Phillips, and Byers teaming up to swim a time of 2:58.75 to place fifth.
On the women's side, Bailey Kustermeyer was UNLV's highest finisher, placing 17th in the 200 breast with a time of 2:17.56, while Kim Bonney was 21st in 2:21.41. Marina Sandback swam the 100 free, and took 20th in 51.06. UNLV's 400 free relay team of Sandback, Bonney, Marva Harpak, and Katie Wronn finished 11th in 3:27.33.
The Rebels are now off until hosting the UNLV Winter Invitational, December 16-18 at Buchanan Natatorium.
