Rebels Win Invitational Title

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams ended their three-day UNLV Winter Invitational by finishing atop their respective team standings as the last day of competition ended on Monday night at Buchanan Natatorium.
The 18th-ranked UNLV men swept all six events on Monday, beginning with a win by Kier Maitland in the 1650 free in a time of 14:59.27. Other individual victories came from Nick Blank in the 200 back (1:51.71), Tyler Bush in the 100 free (45.71), Andrew Morrell in the 200 breast (2:04.88), and Andrew Mooers in the 200 fly (1:52.39). The Rebels 400 free relay squad of Bush, Charlie Tapp, Calan Eldridge and David Seiler also finished first, touching the wall in a time of 3:05.08.
UNLV won the men's meet with a score of 1,090 points, while Fresno Pacific was second with 644 points, and Concordia was third with 336 points.
The Rebel women earned wins in four events on Monday night. Jessica Heim led off the night with a first-place swim in the 1650 free in a time of 17:02.08. Brittany Ozar won the 200 back in 1:59.64, while Nakayla Chan placed first in the 200 breast in 2:20.10. Hilary Ego, Friderika Szel, Lara Sreibers and Heim teamed up to post a winning time of 3:29.31 in the 400 free relay.
UNLV posted a score of 968 to stand in first among the seven women's teams. New Mexico State was second with 748, and was followed by Fresno Pacific in third (204), Cal State Bakersfield in fourth (198), Concordia in fifth (136), while Azusa Pacific and Cal State East Bay tied for sixth with 15 points each.
The Rebels will return to action on Friday as they take to the road to take on USC at 2 pm in Los Angeles.
