Rebels Close Up Action At Finis

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams posted a total of three victories on the final day of competition at the 2009 Finis Collegiate Invitational on Monday, held in Long Beach, Calif., and hosted by Cal Lutheran University.
Kier Maitland turned in a time of 15:02.16 to claim first in the 1650 free while the Rebels earned four other runner-up finishes on the men's side. Chris Riley finished second in the 200 back with a time of 1:51.51 and Andrew Morrell was runner-up in the 200 breast with a time of 2:04.32. Daniel Egly claimed second in the 200 fly with a time of 1:48.91 while Calan Eldridge, Charlie Tapp, Tyler Bush and Steven Nelms would post a second-place finish in the 400 free relay with a time of 2:59.24.
On the women's side, Ana Dangalakova and Carmen Robb each claimed an individual victory, while UNLV would finish with three more runner-up performances. Dangalakova won the 200 back with a time of 2:00.95 and Robb touched the wall first in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.91. Shawnee Landolt finished second in the 1650 free with a time of 17:05.70 while Marva Harpak was runner-up in the 100 free with a time 51.11. Marva Harpak, Friderika Szel, Haley Porter and Andree Anne Genereux finished second in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:27.39.
On the men's team standings, UNLV finished second with 1,811 points out of eight teams, while UC Santa Barbara finished first with 2,262 points. UNLV was just 18 points out of first on the women's side, scoring 2,159 points to finish behind UCSB (2,177 points).
The Rebels will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 19, when the women's squad goes to California to take on San Diego State at 1 pm.
