UNLV's Brandon Nelms and Katie Wronn both each won an individual event and swam a relay to a first place finish on the first day of the UNLV Winter Invite Saturday at Buchanen Natatorium. The meet, featuring a total of 10 teams, continues on Sunday before finishing with the third day on Sunday. The prelims for both days start at 10 am, with the finals beginning at 5:30 pm.
On the women's side of the competition, UNLV won the first event of the meet, the 200 free relay in a time of 1:35.08. Wronn led off the relay, followed by Jessie Bradshaw, Lauren Browning, while Marina Sandback was the anchor. Wronn would then claim the 50 free title after swimming 23.44.
The Rebel men would also take first in the 200 free relay, touching the wall in 1:23.12. Nelms was the leadoff swimmer for UNLV, followed by Eric Culberson, Magnus Egmar, with Joe Bartoch swimming the anchor leg Freshman Johann Claar won his 11th straight college race, taking the 500 free in 4:5.80, while Nelms posted a victory in the 50 free in 20.54. It was the second straight year Nelms won the 50 free title.
