Rebel Men Take Invite Title, Women Third

UNLV's Joe Bartoch and Johan Claar each won one event on the final day of the UNLV Winter Invite to lead the Rebel men to the team title, while the UNLV women's team placed third as the three-day meet finished competition on Monday night at Buchanen Natatorium.
UNLV scored 953 points to win the men's title by 39 points over second place Cal State Bakersfield. In third was UC Santa Barbara with 846, while Cal State Northridge was fourth (489), Dartmouth placed fifth (309), the University of LA Verne was sixth (60), and Minnesota State was seventh with five points.
Claar began the night by winning his 13th consecutive collegiate race, turning in a time of 15:34.26 in the 1650 free. His time was the sixth fastest in UNLV history, and second fastest in the Mountain West Conference this season, and gave him his third victory of the meet. Bartoch claimed the Rebels' other victory of the night, winning the 100 free in 44.74. The Rebels' 400 free relay also claimed second place, just .07 seconds behind first place Cal State Bakersfield. Swimming on the relay was Brandon Nelms, Bartoch, John Pittenger, and Claar.
UC Santa Barbara won the women's meet with 932 points, while Rice was second at 784, and UNLV placed third with 732. In fourth was Northern Arizona with 338 points, followed by Cal State Bakersfield (250), San Diego State (215), Dartmouth (161), Cal State Northridge (160), New Mexico State (135), and Minnesota State (13).
On the women's side, freshman Bailey Kuestermeyer took first in the 200 breast with a swim of 2:17.48, which is the fastest in the MWC this year and fourth fastest in Rebel history. Kim Bonney also placed third in the 200 breast, while Katie Wronn took third in the 100 free.
