Rebels Fall to Arizona in Dual Meet Action
TUCSON, Ariz. - The UNLV men's and women's swim team traveled to Tucson to take on the University of Arizona. Arizona, a top 20 program, defeated the Rebels 145.5 to 112.5 in men's action and 141-117 in women's action.
Bobby Middleton captured the 100 breaststroke for UNLV, clocking a time of 57.77 and Petr Kratochvil won the 200 with a time of 2:06.25 for a rebel sweep in the breaststroke events. In the 200 backstroke, Tomasz Piotrowski got the first place finish with a time of 1:50.67. Mike Mintenko and Erik Scalise also finished tops in the 100 butterfly (49.73) and the 200 IM (1:53.51), respectively.
On the women's side, Freshman Sabrina Ferrari came up big in the 200 butterfly. Her first place time of 2:09.08 was her best finish of the season. Freshman Ashleigh Crowder also showed the potential of the Rebel youth, taking a second place finish in the 100 backstroke (59.10).
UNLV now owns a 3-1 dual meet record in men's swimming and a 2-3 dual meet record in women's swimming. The next meet is the annual Winter Invitational held at Buchanan Natatorium on the campus of UNLV on December 13-15.
