Rebels Fall to California but Win over San Diego State

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The men's and women's swim teams traveled to San Diego, Calif. for their first dual meet action since November 22 to take on California and San Diego State (women only). The men fell to California 89-108 and the women were defeated 83-113 at the hands of the Golden Bears. The women also swam against San Diego State, defeating the Aztecs 148-47.

On the men's side, Petr Kratochvil captured the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:28.54.5. Kratochvil also finished on top in the 500 freestyle, recording a time of 4:34.61. Erik Scalise took first place in the 200 individual medley with his time of 1:50.44. He clocked 2:05.27 in the 200 breaststroke for another first place finish. Also swimming to top finishes were Mike Mintenko in the 100 freestyle (46.40) and Justin Jacobs, whose time of 1:51.60 in the 200 butterfly was a personal best.

In women's action, Donna Wu finished first with a time of 10:43.31 in the 1000 freestyle. Ashleigh Crowder, WAC Swimmer of the Week for the week of December 15, recorded a time of 57.67 in the 100 backstroke.

The men's swim team's dual meet record now falls at 3-2, while the women stand at 3-4. The Rebels next travel to former Big West Conference foe, UC Santa Barbara, for a meet on Saturday, January 10. Both teams return home on January 30-31 for a matchup with WAC rival BYU.
