UNLV Wraps Up Home Dual Meet Season Against Pacific and Fresno State
Men took on the Tigers of UOP and cruised to a 123-93 victory.
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Rebels concluded their dual meet season today at the Buchanan Natatorium against Pacific and Fresno State. The men took on the Tigers of UOP and cruised to a 123-93 victory. The women's meet came down to the wire, but Fresno State secured the win in the final event of the day, the 400 freestyle relay. The final score was 148-152.
Michael Soria and Michael Rosen handled the distance events with their victories in the 1000 free (9:39.09) and the 500 free (4:30.02), respectively. Tomasz Piotrowski scored two top finishes in the 200 back (1:50.49) and the 200 free. Petr Kratochvil also clocked a pair of victories, winning both the 200 breast (2:06.25) and the 200 individual medley (1:54.17). The final multiple winner was Ryan Kelly, who finished first in the 100 butterfly (49.30) and the 50 free (20.93).
The women's meet stayed close throughout the afternoon. Down 13 points entering the final event, the Rebels' Donna Wu came from behind in the final leg of the 400 freestyle relay to capture the race for UNLV. The Rebels finished first and third but needed a one-two finish to win the meet. Ashleigh Crowder had another solid day for UNLV, winning both the backstroke events (100, 57.83; 200, 2:06.31). Janel Frei also captured two top finishes in the 500 free (5:02.81) and the 200 free (1:53.71).
UNLV will conclude its regular season next weekend at the Arizona Invitational on February 14. It will be the final warmup before the WAC Championships, which take place February 26-28 for the women and March 5-7 for the men.
