Strong Showing At World Championships

ROME, Italy - UNLV sophomore Zsuzsanna Jakabos (representing Hungary) completed her last race at the FINA World Championships, which were held in Rome, Italy, this past Sunday.
Swimming her signature event, the 400-meter individual medley, Jakabos posted a 4:37.47 in the preliminary heats to earn a berth in finals. She duplicated the time in the evening, finishing seventh in the world for the event.
Jakabos also had considerable success earlier in the competition, swimming both the 200-meter backstroke and the 200-meter butterfly. Her time of 2:08.34 in the butterfly qualified for the semifinals, and she ended up placing 14th overall. Her backstroke time was good for 17th, just shy of semifinals with a time of 2:11.75.
Canadian Joe Bartoch, a former Rebel swimmer who graduated from UNLV in 2006, also competed at World Champs, swimming the 100-meter butterfly. Bartoch was just off his Canadian record in the event, swimming a 52.60, which was good for 40th in the event. He also was 41st in the 50-meter butterlfy with a time of 24.04.
