Rebels Set To Take On Cougars, Utes
Nov. 10, 2005
LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams look to keep alive their perfect record in conference action, as they will take on BYU and Utah this weekend on the road. The Rebels will meet BYU in Provo, Utah on Friday afternoon at 5 pm, followed by a Saturday afternoon meet in Salt Lake City against the Utah Utes at 2 pm.
The Rebel men are 2-0 on the year, and 1-0 in league action after a win at TCU last weekend. UNLV also had a victory over No. 25 Arizona State under its belt. Leading the team this year has been senior Joe Bartoch and freshman Johan Claar, who has won five of his six individual events so far this season. Friday's meet will also be a matchup of the top two teams in the league, as both the Rebels and the Cougars were picked as co-favorites for this year's league title.
UNLV is 2-1 and 2-0 in the conference on the women's side, as the Rebels have wins over both TCU and at San Diego State in their season opener. Two freshmen have been named MWC Swimmer of the Week the past two weeks, Bailey Kuestermeyer and Amanda Weinbrecht. UNLV will be looking to avenge its lone conference loss last year, at the hands of the Utes, while they look to post a win over BYU for the third straight year.
