LAS VEGAS ( - The 54th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team marked is 2012 home opener by evening its record at 2-2 with a 6-1 win over UC Riverside Friday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Rebels won two of three doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead. Rene Ruegamer and Johannes Markel downed Kevin Griffin and Jimmy Roberts 8-2 at the second spot while Willie Sublette and Charlie Alvarado clinched it with an 8-5 victory over Luis Gastao and Simon Peters on court three.

Moving to singles play, the hosts won five matches in straight sets: Tamas Batyi downed Felix Macherez 6-3, 6-3 on the top of the lineup; Alex Bull whitewashed Roberts 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2; Bernard Schoeman got by Gastao 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4; Brian Kenyon downed Peters 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5; and Sublette eased by Griffin 6-3, 6-3 on court six.

Next up, UNLV will host Loyola Marymount on Saturday beginning with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all UNLV tennis matches is free of charge.
