Feb. 16, 2018
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men’s tennis team got off to a hot start on a cool Friday night but saw San Diego State rally to win a 4-3 thriller at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in the Mountain West opener for both teams.
The Rebels fell to 4-4 overall while the Aztecs notched their first win of the season in seven outings.
The hosts opened by taking a spirited doubles session, getting a win on court two from Eric Samuelsson and Clayton Alenik and then clinching it when Alexandr Cozbinov and Courtney Lock won at the top of the lineup.
Moving to singles play, UNLV won the first set on half the courts and eventually took a 3-2 lead before SDSU won both three-setters to claim the overall victory.
NET NOTE: The Rebels have won the doubles point in three straight matches but have won only one of those outings.
QUOTABLE: “After great energy in the doubles, we were not able to keep that momentum going in singles. This guys battled hard in spots but SDSU deserved the win on tonight.”
