TEMPE, Ariz. - The UNLV men's tennis team began a two-match trip to the Grand Canyon State by losing 5-2 to No. 45 Arizona State at the Whiteman Tennis Center on Friday.

The Rebels, who were without starter Wesley Burrows because of an ankle injury, fell to 3-6 overall while the Sun Devils improved to 7-2.

ASU opened the day sweeping three doubles matches for one team point. In singles play, the Sun Devils took matches on the top three courts in straight sets to clinch it. UNLV got its one point when Jonathan Hooper downed Nick Hegarty 7-6, 7-5 on court four. The hosts also won third-set super-tiebreakers on both five and six.

The Rebels next take on Arizona on Saturday beginning at 12:30 PT.
