March 7, 2018
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV finished off a perfect doubleheader sweep Wednesday with a 4-0 nightcap victory over Montana under a stunning sunset at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels, who downed Ball State by the same score earlier in the day, improved to 6-4 overall while the Grizzlies of the Big Sky Conference fell to 2-2.
A spirited doubles session opened the late-afternoon affair as UNLV won 6-4 at the third spot and then clinched the point with another 6-4 victory at the top of the lineup.
The Rebels won all but one of the completed sets in singles as they got off the courts in less than two hours. First to score was Alexandr Cozbinov as the No. 89 singles player in the nation breezed past Victor Casadevall 6-3, 6-0.
REBEL OF THE MATCH: Courtney Lock teamed with Cozbinov at No. 1 doubles and the senior duo upset No. 77 Yannick Schmidl and Alexander Canellopoulos, 6-4, at the top position. Lock then finished things in singles for his team with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Canellopoulos on court two.
NET NOTE: The Rebels have won the doubles point in five straight matches.
QUOTABLE: “Montana is much-improved so I was pleased how our team played in doubles. Overall, we have a few things to work on as we get ready for another solid opponent tomorrow.”
-Head Coach Owen Hambrook
