LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team won its second straight match, this time 5-2 over No. 74 Ball State on Thursday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
UNLV improved to 5-8 overall while the Cardinals fell to 11-4.
The Rebels started strong by winning all three doubles matches for one team point. Bernard Schoeman and Brian Kenyon downed Dalton Albertin and Ray Leonard 8-4 at the top spot; Alex Bull and Willie Sublette beat Zane Smith and Derek Carpenter 9-8 at No. 2; and Tamas Batyi and Johannes Markel bested Austin Smith and Patrick Elliotte 8-5 on court three.
In singles, UNLV got wins from Rene Ruegamer, 6-1, 6-4 over Albertin at No. 1; Bull, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 over Leonard at No. 2; Batyi, 6-2, 6-4 over Alexandre Brym 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4; and Charlie Alvarado, 6-4, 6-2 over Austin Smith on court five.
Next up, the Rebels host Utah State on Friday beginning with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission to all UNLV matches is free of charge.
