Senior Day Celebration Means Upset Of Lobos|

The UNLV men's tennis team celebrated Senior Day by upsetting No. 68 New Mexico Sunday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
The Rebels won for the eighth time in the last nine outings to improve to 12-8 overall and 2-1 in the Mountain West while the Lobos fell to 16-7.
UNLV's two seniors -- Tamas Batyi and Willie Sublette -- were honored before their final home appearance. The Rebels then posted a stirring comeback at the top of the lineup to win the doubles point. After UNM won on court two, Jakob Amilon and Dimitar Petrov downed James Hignett and Mitch McDaniels 8-6 on court three to even things at one match apiece. At No. 1, Ace Matias and Denys Pume rallied after being down 6-3 to outlast Hayden Sabatka and Rodolfo Jauregui 8-7 with a 7-3 win in the tiebreaker.
In singles play, Matias gave his team a 2-0 lead with a dominating 6-1, 6-1 performance over Sabatka. UNM won the next two completed matches to tie it up but the Rebels gutted out a trio of three-setters to win going away. Batyi got by Andrew Van Der Vyver 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 at No. 3; Pume rallied past Jauregui 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 at No. 2; and Petrov closed out Mads Hegelund 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 at No. 5.
"This was a very close match against a tough New Mexico team," UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook said. "We managed to scrape out the doubles point and keep that energy going in singles. It was great for the team to get a win on Senior Day for Tamas and Willie."
Next up, UNLV closes out is league schedule with three road contests, beginning with Fresno State on Saturday.
