RECAP & PHOTOS: Senior Day Ends With Win Over Bulldogs![]()
April 9, 2017 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team defeated Fresno State 4-1 on a sunny and cool Senior Day Sunday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The Rebels improved to 14-7 overall and 2-2 in Mountain West Conference play while the Bulldogs dropped to 13-1 and 0-1 in conference play.
UNLV forged a 1-0 lead by taking two out of three doubles matches. Jakob Amilon and Evaldo Neto defeated Patrik Pech and Euan McIntosh 6-2 at the top position while Adam Gage-Brown and Ruben Alberts beat Mantas Bugailiskis and Xander Veys in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), on court two to clinch it. Moving to singles play, UNLV won three matches to secure the win. Amilon, the team's No. 1 player competing in his final home match, defeated Veys 7-6 (6), 6-4 at the top of the lineup; Alexandr Cozbinov beat Euan McIntosh 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2; and Charlie Croxford finished off Youssef Hassan 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 on court six. Before the match, the team's two seniors, Amilon and Gage-Brown, were honored on the court as the match was the final home date of the season.
"It was a great team effort today and always nice to win on Senior Day in honor of Jakob and Adam," said head coach Owen Hambrook.
The Rebels will close the regular season with four road matches, beginning with at New Mexico on Friday.
