Men's Tennis Falls In Regular-Season Finale

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team closed its regular-season schedule by suffering a close 4-2 defeat at San Diego State on Saturday at the Aztec Tennis Center.

The Rebels saw their six-match win streak snapped to fall to 17-8 overall and completed Mountain West play at 4-3 while the Aztecs improved to 9-14 and 4-3 in league play.

SDSU opened a 1-0 lead by taking both completed doubles matches using tiebreakers.

Moving to singles, SDSU won on three courts to clinch it but UNLV got its points when Evaldo Neto beat Sander Gjoels-Andersen at the third position, 6-4, 6-4 and Charlie Croxford defeated Rafael Gonzalez Almazan 7-5, 6-4 at No. 6. Two other Rebels also won a set but fell to their opponents; Jakob Amilon on court one vs. Marko Goles-Babic and Ruben Alberts at No. 4 vs. Santiago Cevallos. Richard Solberg also won a set, but played was halted before it was finished at No. 5 vs. Joel Popov.

UNLV will now await seeding for the 2017 MW Men's Tennis Championship, which takes place this week at Boise State’s Appleton Tennis Center.
