Oct. 3, 2013
TULSA, Okla. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV junior Ace Matias got off to a good start but could not close out his opponent in the first set and ultimately lost his opening match in Thursday's main draw of the 2013 St. Francis ITA Men's Tennis All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Matias, ranked 76th, led 14th-seeded and 17th-ranked Jared Hilzik of Illinois 4-1 early but saw Hilzik come back to take a 7-5, 6-3 victory.
Falling to the consolation bracket, Matias later in the day lost another tough one, this time to SMU's 73rd-ranked Artrus Kazjevs, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
"Ace had a tough day physically," said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "He battled hard and left it all on the court."
