Feb. 1, 2012
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV tennis' Alex Bull was named Mountain West Men's Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Bull, a senior from London, England, picked up his first career MW weekly nod by going 2-1 in singles play last week against teams all ranked higher than No. 61 UNLV. He began the week by downing UC Irvine's Ryan Cheung in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, in the Rebels' season opener on Thursday. On Sunday, he posted the clinching point in UNLV's 4-2 upset victory over No. 45 South Florida, notching a 7-6, 6-4 win over Juan Carlos Acuna to give the Rebels their first win of the season at the ITA Kickoff Weekend event at Marks Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. Bull's only defeat came on Saturday against top-ranked USC and the nation's 33rd-ranked player.
Bull and his teammates will be back in action Friday when they host UC Riverside starting at 1 p.m. Friday.
