Rebels Among League Leaders In Academics|

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team has the second-most honorees in the league with six as the 2012 Academic All-Mountain West Team was released this week.
Only New Mexico had more among conference teams with seven.
A pair of the Rebel honorees made their third career appearance on the list: juniors Bernard Schoeman (3.92) and Johannel Markel (3.36).
Senior Rene Ruegamer (3.92), who earlier this spring was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team by CoSIDA, was a repeat honoree as was senior Alex Bull (3.66) and sophomore Tamas Batyi (3.47). Senior Brian Kenyon (3.67) also made the list after transferring to UNLV for his final season.
To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor.
It was also announced that head coach Owen Hambrook's program also had the second-most 2012 Scholar-Athletes with three, trailing only the Lobos' four. Adding the even more impressive honor were Rebels Bull, Kenyon and Ruegamer.
The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
