Rebels Lauded For Academic Work

July 27, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV's men's tennis team earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association Academic All-America status for the ninth consecutive season as well as boasting three individual honorees, the ITA announced.

The ITA team award is open to any program that has a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

Individually honored for head coach Owen Hambrook's squad were all three of the team's seniors: Alex Bull, Brian Kenyon and Rene Ruegamer.

It marked the 11th consecutive season that at least two UNLV men earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.

UNLV was one of only two schools -- along with TCU -- in the Mountain West to see both its men's and women's teams earn the ITA honor in 2012.
