LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's tennis program will look to improve on its final ranking of 73 last season by playing a good mix of quality non-conference opponents along with its Mountain West Conference slate, as the program's 2009-2010 schedule was released Friday.

No less than 10 of the Rebels' upcoming 24 dual-match opponents were included in the final Campbell ITA College Tennis Rankings in May.

"I'm excited about this season," UNLV sixth-year head coach Owen Hambrook said. "We'll be young but we have a lot of talent in the lineup. We're looking forward to facing this schedule and making another run at the conference title."

The fall season includes taking part in the annual ITA Regional championship tournament on Oct. 21-25 at Las Vegas' Stacy Darling Tennis Center. UNLV also will host an individual tournament in early November that is scheduled to feature players from programs such as Arizona, NAU, Cal Poly, Pacific, Arkansas and Idaho.

After hosting a January invitational, the team's dual-match season kicks off with Texas Tech (ranked 39th last year) coming to the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Jan. 22. That begins a nine-match homestand that runs through Feb. 13.

UNLV's first road trip takes it to UC Irvine on Feb. 19, San Diego on Feb. 21 and Fresno State (44th) on Feb. 28. Hawaii (41st) on March 5, Pacific (67th) on March 6 and Iowa (60th) on March 17 highlight the remainder of the non-conference schedule - all coming at home.

The Rebels host TCU (38th) on April 2, New Mexico (45th) on April 9 and will hold Senior Day on April 11 vs. Air Force. After a trip to the Beehive State to take on Utah on April 16 (51st) and then BYU on April 17 (64th), the regular-season ends with a single match at San Diego State (42nd) on April 24.

UNLV will host the MWC Championship from April 28-May 1 while the NCAA regionals are scheduled for May 14-16 at campus sites to be determined. The round of 16 and individual national tournaments will take place at the University of Georgia from May 20-31.
