UNLV jumped out to a huge first quarter lead and played Nevada, Reno even the rest of the way to earn a season sweep of the Wolf Pack thanks to a 64-49 victory on Saturday afternoon in Mountain West women's basketball action from Lawlor Events Center. With the victory, UNLV reached 20 wins for the second time in the past 14 years and the first since 2011-12 as it now stands at 20-8 overall. The Lady Rebels also remained in a tie for second place with Wyoming at 11-5 in league play with two games left in the conference season.

With their sweep of the Wolf Pack, UNLV also earned three points in the Governor's Series, the all-sports competition between the two schools sponsored by NV Energy and Barrick Gold. When factoring in points also decided on Saturday in men's basketball and indoor track and field, UNLV has narrowed the deficit to 15-9.

UNLV's defense once again was the big factor in the win, and that was on display right from the tip as the Lady Rebels held the Wolf Pack to just 10 points on 4-of-13 shooting in the first quarter. Offensively meanwhile the Lady Rebels were on point at the start of the contest, knocking down 9-of-16 (56.3%) from the floor in the opening 10 minutes. The Lady Rebels held an 8-0 edge on points off turnovers over that stretch as well. UNR led just once in the game, at 2-0, before four straight points from UNLV put the visitors ahead early. It was still a one-possession game, 8-6 with 5:46 to play, when UNLV took over, closing the quarter on a 17-4 burst. That included 10 unanswered points in the final three minutes, capped by a three-pointer from Dylan Gonzalez at the buzzer following a steal from her twin Dakota.

The Lady Rebels opened the second on a 7-2 run to go ahead 32-12, and took their largest lead of the game, 39-18 at the 2:05 mark off a jumper from Dakota Gonzalez. UNR would make things interesting by scoring the final six points of the half to close within 39-24, and then opened the third quarter with eight straight. That 14-0 run brought the Wolf Pack within 39-32 with 6:39 to go in the third quarter.

UNLV answered back with four straight points. UNR again cut the deficit to seven, 43-36 with 3:44 to play, before UNLV scored the final six points to take a 49-36 lead into the fourth quarter. Brooke Johnson answered with five straight for a 13-point edge for UNLV, who would finish holding its opponent under 50 points for the fifth time in the last nine games.

Johnson nearly posted a double-double, scoring 16 points and adding eight rebounds, while Dakota Gonzalez tied her for game-high honors with 16 points as well. Katie Powell added 10 points and a career-high four blocks, while Dylan Gonzalez chipped in 10 points as well.
