UNLV LOOKS FOR SWEEP OF SPARTANS...
Playing a second straight road game in California, the UNLV Lady Rebels will be looking to claim their first season sweep of the season when they face the San Jose State Spartans on Wednesday night in a Mountain West road contest. UNLV won the first meeting this year 79-60 in Las Vegas, and that was without junior point guard Nikki Wheatley in the lineup, as she was sitting out with a foot injury.
The game will be live streamed on the Mountain West and there will also be a radio broadcast on with the call of Adam Candee, with both available through UNLVRebels.com.
UNLV has won three straight road games going into Wednesday’s contest, and overall have won seven of eight with the lone loss at the buzzer to Fresno State. A win over SJSU would give the Lady Rebels their first 7-2 start to MW play since the 2003-04 squad won seven of its first nine, on the way to a 10-4 league mark and a third-place finish.
SJSU meanwhile has lost three straight, all by double-digits, including its last home game, a 112-80 setback to Boise State on Jan. 24. The Spartans did play tougher in their road game at MW leader Wyoming, falling 58-46 on Jan. 27.
In the first meeting between the two, UNLV used its size advantage to dominate inside, with a 50-18 advantage on points in the paint. The Spartans aren’t the only ones to struggle with the Lady Rebels’ outstanding post play. UNLV has outscored its past seven opponents 230-118 on points in the paint while holding a +10.9 rebound margin for the seven contests.
