Vérin Named Co-Player Of The Week|
March 4, 2013
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Thanks to a career-best performance this past weekend, UNLV freshman Réjane Vérin was named the Mountain West Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Vérin is not only the first Lady Rebel to earn conference honors this season, she's also the first freshman from UNLV to be named since Kelli Thompson on Dec. 21, 2009.
Vérin, a 6-2 forward and native of Les Abymes, Guadeloupe, posted her a second consecutive new career-high in scoring with 26 points on 12-of-16 shooting from the floor in UNLV's 80-63 victory over Nevada, Reno on March 2 in Las Vegas. That topped her previous career-high of 19 points, set in the previous game on Feb. 23 against Wyoming. Her 75% shooting performance from the floor is also the top performance by any MW player in a league game this season. Vérin added five rebounds and a career-high tying four assists in the victory as well.
Since becoming a starter on Jan. 30 against UNR following the season-ending injury to Alana Cesarz, she has averaged 12.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and shot 53.8% over that nine-game stretch.
UNLV, 11-17 on the year and in fourth place in the MW at 7-7, closes out the regular season this week with two road games. First up is a Wednesday night contest at Boise State in Idaho, starting at 6 pm (PT).
