Three members of the UNLV Women's Basketball program, Markiell Styles, Mia Bell and assistant coach Kim Ortega recently took a visit to J. Marlan Walker International School in Henderson to participate in the annual Nevada Reading Week.

The morning started with introductions in several of the fifth grade classrooms, followed by the Lady Rebels alternating in reading Michael Jordan in Pursuit of a Dream. Once the reading ended, several of the students took the opportunity to share what types of books they were reading and their current interests.

Las Vegas local Mia Bell opened the classroom discussion by asking how many of the students were interested in attending UNLV, and the majority of the class raised their hands. Senior Markiell Styles added, "I remember the impact it had on me when local college athletes visited my elementary classrooms, so I always enjoy giving back and emphasizing the importance of reading to the youth," stated senior Markiell Styles.

The Lady Rebels coordinated with Principal Celeste Oakes and Librarian Karen Williams, and look forward to working with their school again next year.
