LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -

Every Tuesday this summer, we will hear from a different Lady Rebel as she catches up UNLVRebels.com readers with an account of how their summer is going, an update on their workouts and their goal for the upcoming season. This seventh installment is provided by senior forward/guard Amanda Anderson.

Tuesday, July 9

Right when school ended this past spring, I was so excited to get back home to Texas. I am very close with my family and I could not wait to spend a few weeks with them before summer school started. Unlike a lot of my teammates, I cannot just drive back home on weekends to see my family, so I take full advantage when I get an opportunity to go home. For the most part, I spend all my days with my Mom and sister. My basketball schedule and commitment to this team limits how often I can return home, so when I am there, my priorities are always to spend time with them, rather than anyone else.

My older sister and I decided to take a sister’s trip to spend some time together and have some fun. At the end of May we flew to Cancun, Mexico for a week. We had an amazing time and it is always the best thing to have your older sister as your best friend.  The older we become, the closer we become, and I wouldn't have it any other way.  The water was gorgeous and the weather was great. This trip was my favorite part of summer so far.

Since then, I have returned to Vegas for summer school and workouts. I am taking two classes this summer and can’t wait to finally graduate in December. My Mom came out and stayed with me for a couple of weeks and we had a blast! Planet Hollywood buffet, Celine Dion, walking on the strip – everything we did together was eventful.  I was so happy to have her here with me and I wish she could have stayed the whole summer. I have been lifting and running every morning with our strength and conditioning coach, Coach Kabo, before classes. It feels great to get in a good workout in the mornings, before you get your day started. I am also getting up a lot of shots, particularly three’s.  I hope to get my three-point percentage up this year and be known as a constant three-point threat within in conference. Many people don’t know, but I also love to go to Sunset Park and run on the trails.  It helps me clear my mind and get a good cardio workout in. I am really excited for this up-coming season and can’t wait to get started!
