Keeping Up With Jehiah

Aug. 1, 2014

Every week this summer, we will hear from a different Lady Rebel as she catches up readers with an account of how their summer is going, an update on their workouts and their goal for the upcoming season. This sixth installment is provided by junior guard Jehiah Cook.

This summer has been really fun so far, especially being able to see my family and workout at the same time. After the spring semester ended instead of going to New York to visit my mother, I went to California to visit my great grandmother. It was a blessing being able to see her and the rest of my family. While out in California I worked out every day, my coaches made me a shooting workout to do three times a week. I can say from my workouts in the summer, my game has definitely improved. Not only did I get in the gym and work on my jump shot and ball handling, I was also in the weight room getting stronger and quicker.

The highlight of my summer was my younger sister’s 90’s skating party. The reason being is because my mother surprised us by showing up at her party. I could not be happier, because my family means so much to me. Even though my mom being at the party was most important to us, it was a blessing seeing the rest of my family that I have not seen in years. My mother only stayed for a few days but it felt like a few years and I was so grateful.

I left home early to come back to Las Vegas to work our day camp, elite camp, and team camp. It was my first time working camps and I really enjoyed helping out our young fans and future fans. It was an awesome experience seeing all of talent Las Vegas has to offer. I had a few girls from day camp tell me that they wanted to be like me and it made me want to work even harder to be a better basketball player and most importantly a better person. I can say that this was the best summer I have had at UNLV.

Since Summer Session 3 started at UNLV we have started our summer workouts, group practices have been going extremely well. I am very confident in my team because of the effort we have been putting forth so far this summer. I am thankful for having great coaches who care about our team and they are making us better every day. We have open gym every week so we will have great chemistry as well. Looking forward to the 14-15 season and what it has to offer for our new team! Go Rebels!
