UNLV CLOSES OUT DUEL AGAINST SYRACUSE ORANGE...
The UNLV Lady Rebels close out their toughest stretch of the season on Friday, as their contest against Syracuse will mark the third straight game against a top-25 ranked opponent. UNLV will tip-off against the Orange, No. 22 in this week’s ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches’ Poll on Friday at 2:30 pm in the final game of the Duel In The Desert. That marks the final game of a seven-day stretch in which UNLV played at No. 18/17 Stanford on Dec. 16, along with a Dec. 20 home contest against No. 5/3 Mississippi State. The matchup against Syracuse also means UNLV will play the past two national championship runner-up team in back-to-back games.
Also making it a tough challenge for the Lady Rebels is their point guard situation, as both point guards on the roster are currently out with injuries, leaving the Lady Rebels with only two guards total and nine overall active players.
For Friday's games, fans can bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate to the Toy Drive and receive 50% off additional tickets to the game. All toys will benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada. Single-day tickets for the Duel In The Desert are $8 for adults, and $5 for seniors and faculty/staff, while all tickets bought online up to three hours before tip-off are just $5. Kids 12 and under are always free at UNLV Lady Rebel contests.
Friday will be UNLV’s first contest against a team from the ACC since the 2013 Duel In The Desert, when the Lady Rebels took down Clemson 63-54. All-time UNLV is 3-5 against the ACC.
The Duel In The Desert is back at UNLV for the first since the 2013-14 season, and this marks the sixth time the Lady Rebels have hosted the event. This year’s field is potentially the best-ever, as in addition to Mississippi State and Syracuse in the Rebel Division, the Scarlet Division features No. Oregon and No. 19 Texas A&M, along with Hawaii.
