Rebels In Fifth After Two Rounds in Tucson

TUCSON, Arizona ( - The UNLV women's golf team finished day one of the Wildcat Invitational at Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson in fifth place after carding a 6-over 582 in the first two rounds Monday. The Rebels shot their best single-round score of the spring as a team in the first round with a 1-under 287.

Sophomore Nastasia Kossacky played some of her most consistent golf as a Rebel, shooting two straight rounds under par for the first time this season to sit in a tie for fifth at 3-under (141) heading into Tuesday's final round. Junior Elizabeth Prior turned in rounds of 72 and 73 to finish the day tied for 20th at 1-over, while freshman Polly Mack and senior Mackenzie Raim both came in four shots behind Prior at 5-over (149) to sit in a tie for 42nd.

The top-ranked Bruins showed why they are the number one team in the country as they built a 10-stroke lead after two rounds at 14-under (562). Tournament-host Arizona came in behind UCLA at 4-under (572), followed by Texas at 2-under (574), Long Beach State at 3-over and UNLV in fifth at 6-over to round out the top five.

UCLA's Lilia Vu, who is the No. 1 ranked player in the country, is atop the leaderboard after shooting an 11-under (133) and holds a five-shot lead going into the third and final round. Her teammate, Mariel Galdiano, is in second at 6-under, followed by Long Beach State's Holland Shourds and Arizona's Gigi Stoll in a tie for third at 4-under. Kossacky joins Kansas State's Connie Jaffrey, Denver's Mary Weinstein and Texas' Kaitlyn Papp in a tie for fifth at 3-under.

REBEL OF THE DAY: Kossacky, a sophomore who transferred to UNLV from Auburn midway through last year, shot a 1-under 71 in round one then followed that with 2-under 70 for her best score after two rounds of any tournament during 2017-18 season. While UCLA's Vu has built a strong lead at 11-under, Kossacky is just one shot out of third place and three shots out of second place.
