ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team shot an 8-over 584 over the first two rounds to sit tied for ninth after day one at University of New Mexico's Dick McGuire/Branch Law Firm Invitational. The Rebels held the lead at the end of the first round of the tournament, which is being played at UNM's Championship Golf Course (par 72, 6,317 yards), at 2-under before shooting a 10-over 298 in round two.
Oklahoma State finished the day atop the leaderboard at 1-under (585), while Pac-12 members Arizona and Colorado rounded out the top three at E and 1-over, respectively. Arizona's Bianca Pagdanganan leads all individuals at 10-under after shooting a pair of 67s Monday.
Two Rebels sit in the top 10 heading into Tuesday's final round. Freshman, Cathy Liu, making her UNLV debut, is in second at 4-under with senior leader Mackenzie Raim three shots behind her at 1-under and in a tie for eighth.
STAT OF THE DAY: UNLV shot a 2-under 286 in round one to lead after the first 18 holes, with Liu's first-round 68 tying for second-best round in the field on the day.
REBELS OF THE DAY: Liu didn't seem phased in her first tournament at the collegiate level, carding a 4-under in round one and shooting even in round two to sit in second and six shots back from the tournament leader. Liu made eight birdies, including four in her first six holes, against two bogies and a double bogie in round one and sank four more birdies in round two. Raim was consistent over the first two rounds, sinking eight birdies against seven bogies to finish at 1-under after 36 holes.
