ALBUQUERQUE (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women’s golf team wrapped up action at the 32nd annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational held in Albuquerque, N.M at the UNM Championship Golf Course today, finishing 16th with a +52 (928) for the total.
Mayko Chwen Wang started today’s final round with two bogies in the first four holes, but was able to make birdies on the par-3 second and par-5 ninth to finish with UNLV’s lowest round of the tournament at even par and tied for 26th place.
Baylor took home the team title, finishing at 11-over for the tournament. TCU and Denver tied for second, four strokes back while Northwestern finished fourth at 16-over and San Diego State fifth at 19-over par.
New Mexico’s Sofia Hoglund held on for medalist honors despite carding a 4-over round of 77 today. Hoglund bested Baylor’s Hayley Davis by a single stroke. Sammi Stevens (New Mexico) was the only other player in the field of 96 to finish under par, coming in at 1-under for third place.
Ellis Keenan turned in her best round of the tournament, finishing with a 79 (+6) despite playing the final four holes at 4-over par.
Marguerite Swearingen turned in a final round 80 (+7) while Katerina Prorokova shot an 81 (+8) and Charlotte Brooks an 83 (+10) to round out the UNLV lineup.
The Rebels will be back in action a week from today, traveling to Seattle, Washington to compete in the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational.
