Rebels Finish Fifth At Betsy Rawls Invitational|
Oct. 10, 2017
AUSTIN, TEXAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's golf entered Tuesday's final round at the Betsy Rawls Invitational at the University of Texas Golf Club in a tie for fifth place and that's where it would stay. The Rebels carded a three-round score of 35-over 899 to finish in fifth by themselves after shooting a final round score of 21-over 309.
In just her second collegiate tournament, freshman Polly Mack registered her first top-10 finish, carding a 2-over 218 to place tied for sixth. Mack shot identical rounds of 73 Monday, then carded an even round Tuesday to stay at 2-over.
As a team, the highlight over the two days in Texas was the Rebels' second round - which saw them shoot 1-under after carding a first-round score of 15-over. That experience will surely help UNLV moving forward, especially with two freshmen in the lineup who now have two collegiate tournaments under their belts. The Rebels will also have All-Mountain West Second Team performer Elizabeth Prior returning soon, which will add an experienced member to the lineup.
Tournament host and 19th-ranked Texas held on to its commanding lead despite shooting 10-over in the final round. The Longhorns began the day with a 13-stroke lead and ultimately earned the team title with a 15-shot victory at 2-over. Capturing medalist honors was Texas' Sophia Schubert, who won by four strokes at 6-under 210.
REBEL OF THE DAY: Mack was the most consistent player at the tournament with two rounds of 73 Monday followed by an even round Tuesday - the top round of the day by a Rebel.
