Rebels To Make 10th Straight NCAA Regional Appearance

The UNLV women's golf team will be making its 10th straight NCAA Regional appearance.

LAS VEGAS ( - Celebrating its 11th anniversary as a program, the UNLV women's golf team qualified for its 10th straight NCAA Regional appearance and is the No. 16 seed at the West Regional, which will be played at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo., May 10-12 (hosted by Colorado). The 72 teams and 18 individuals vying for a berth in the championship finals were announced Monday by the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Committee.

"We are extremely honored to be selected to the NCAA Regionals," said UNLV head coach Amy Bush, who is in her second year leading the Rebel program. "Our student-athletes have worked very hard all season and we are looking forward to a great regional championship."

Joining the Rebels in the West Region will be Baylor, California, Colorado, Denver, Illinois, Iowa State, Jackson State, Kennesaw State, LSU, Missouri State, New Mexico, North Carolina, Northern Colorado, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Jose State, Stanford, TCU, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UC Davis and UCLA. The West Region features 12 conference champions. Kayla Mortellaro (Idaho), Ally McDonald (Mississippi State), Amy Anderson (North Dakota State), Maggie Yuan (BYU), Brianna Espinoza (Colorado State) and Demi Mak (New Mexico State) are also part of the field as individuals.

There are three regional sites - the other two are in State College, Pa. (East), and Columbus, Ohio (Central). The top eight teams and two individuals not on those teams at each regional site will advance to the national finals, which will be held at Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn., May 22-25. The championship finals will be hosted by Vanderbilt.

In its last tournament, UNLV finished second at the Mountain West Championship, which was played in Litchfield Park, Ariz., April 20-22. The Rebels had two individuals that recorded top-10 finishes in freshman Dana Finkelstein, who tied for third place, three shots back, and senior Bethany Calvo, who finished ninth.

Finkelstein, along with fellow freshman Mayko Chwen Wang, earned 2012 MW Co-Freshmen of the Year honors, marking just the second time in conference history that a freshman duo shared the award and first by teammates. Finkelstein and Wang also were selected to the All-MW squad, which was announced following the league championship.

A practice round will be held at the regional on Wednesday, May 9, followed by first-round action on Thursday, May 10.
