May 8, 2017
LUBBOCK, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Women's Golf finished day one at the Lubbock Regional in 10th place after shooting a 13-over 301 as a team in the first round at The Rawls Course Monday. The Rebels, making their 15th-straight NCAA Regional appearance, were led by junior Mackenzie Raim and senior Harley Dubsky, who each shot a 2-over to sit tied for 16th after 18 holes.
The back-to-back Mountain West Champions started the round on the back nine and found a groove after the turn, recording 13 birdies over holes one through nine. Overall, the Rebels are eight back from day one leader Arizona State and just three strokes back from the sixth team currently in qualifying position.
Raim and Dubsky both dropped double bogeys over their first five holes, but bounced back well the rest of the way, sinking a combined seven birdies over the final 10 holes to each card a 74 - UNLV's top scores on the day. Senior Alexandra Kaui came in two strokes behind them at 4-over 76 to sit in a tie for 36th while Elizabeth Prior - who knocked in a team-high five birdies in round one - is one behind Kaui at 5-over (77), which is tied for 55th. Sophomore Alyssa Getty rounded things out with a 10-over.
Perhaps speaking to the difficulty of the course, no team finished under par after round one. No. 7 Arizona State grabbed the day one lead at 5-over, followed by Oregon in second at 6-over and tournament host Texas Tech and the regional's top seed and second-ranked UCLA in a tie for third at 8-over. BYU recorded a 9-over, good for fifth, while the Rebels' Mountain West foe San Diego State rounded out the top six at 10-over. The three teams just ahead of the Rebels are No. 23 Oklahoma at 11-over, followed by No. 10 Furman and No. 18 Texas, who are both at 12-over.
Individually, UCLA's Lilia Vu - the fourth ranked player in the country according to Golfstat - is atop the leaderboard at 4-under with Oregon's Cathleen Santoso in second at 3-under and Kent State's Pimnipa Panthong in third at 2-under. Three players - Texas' Sophia Schubert, BYU's Alex White and Arizona State's Monica Vaughn - round out the top six at 1-under.
The Rebels will tee off in the second round starting at 8 a.m. again. Getty is scheduled for 8 a.m., followed by Prior at 8:10 a.m., Kaui at 8:20 a.m., Dubsky at 8:30 a.m. and Raim at 8:40 a.m. All times are in central time.
